Old guy likes to call people 'Useful Idiot'. He parrots Pooty because he's not really able to think for himself. They actually do Trump's projection. Trump projects all his inadequacies and lies. When he accuses someone of something, it's because he's actually the one guilty of it. It's how he operates. In fact, there's a book out now:

When Donald Trump is accusing others of treason, it is HE who is guilty of Treason (Ukraine, among others)

Accusing HIllary of Collusion, it is Donnie who colluded with Russia
