If universal heathcare was being used, the epidemic would be much worse.

Just the fact that universal healthcare removes competition, means Heath services would be worse and longer wait times.  Doctors would be assigned more patients than they can handle.  Service would have been much worse.  But the biggest issue is that universal heathcare does not really produce new technologies, it is possible we still might not even have a vaccine.
