Im old enough to remember Watergate. Nixon could nipped that in the bud and should have done so- the coverup was more damaging that admitting some of his supporters were profoundly inept, stupid.
It will be the same with Trump and January 6. There are so many birds caught in that net that there will be multiple connections to Trump and his attempt to create chaos in America so he could proclaim an emergency extension of his time in office to deal with it.
Trouble is that even with years of practice denying, dissembling and diverting attention he's not good at it. Clue- he claims to be a 'very stable genius'. He might as well pin a target to his chest and sand against the wall. Such hubris is irresistable to enemies.
Think Yamato and the Bismark: destroying them would have been much more benefit than the losses to the attacking force.
