First of all, the standard you want to apply means nothing in either a religious or a secular context. There is plenty of HISTORICAL evidence in and out of the BIBLE for the lives and writings of  figures like Saint Paul-- Backed up by  fact. To assert otherwise, that Paul is a LITERARY INVENTION ( akin to the flying spagetti monster) is utter nonsense.

What do you know of Plato? Aristotle, DioCleatian, Ireneus, Constantine, Tertullian, Polycarp, Luther, Joseph Smith, Mohammad, Alester Crowley,  and any number of historical figures who left behind a written legacy and cultural or religious influence (both written in their own hand, and in the hands of scribes, and interpreters after their death?)  

On what basis do you actually question _PAUL'S_ EXISTENCE?

None, zero, nada of thse scriptures were written by your attributed authors. All were written at least a hundred years after their deaths. There is also some critical thought that the same author wrote all four and again: a hundred+ years after their death.

On what basis do you make that claim?

The FACTUAL  history of the New Testament in particular is well known and attested to; textually culturally, and circumstancially. I could give you a lengthy class on these developments ( and I belive I have in thae past).  I dont need to debunk the imagings of some have baked propagandist quoting some a Lib textual critic trying to make a name for himself  (who denies PAULS EXISTENCE(?!) against the backdrop of 200) years of ACTUAL HISTORY

No one simply sat down and invented the characters seen in the New Testament, or what they clearly said and did. (as you assert.)  And if you could PROVE they did, why should anyone place their FAITH in them or what they said and did?

People BELIEVE things they have reasons to BELIEVE. Those reasons may vary, as do the outcomes of  faith, but to deny as you do the authenticity of the story itself, and the characters authenticity too, thats far from even rational.
