Your Dear Leader, His Highness Donald the First believed himself above the will of the people. That's what January 6 was about- creating chaos in America and the election process so he could declare an emergency extension to his period in office.
The Donald my not have directly incited the insurrection but he was very happy to see it happen. Somehow it made him feel less a loser:

America doesn't fill the presidency with a direct popular vote, Trump's minority carried the electoral college.
Trump's claimed 2020 'stolen election' was even more lopsided: Trump's popular vote total 74,216,154 (46.9%) lost to Biden's clear majority of 81,268,924 (51.3%).
Trumpists should be happy to take that. The polls predicted a much bigger defeat. Only candidate Trump, even as an incumbent, could get Joe Biden elected.
