It narrowly passed in the Indiana State Senate 26-20, I would hardly call that an overwhelming majority. Keep in mind that of Indiana's 50 State Senators, only 8 are women, and only 11 are Democrats, of which all voted against the bill except the one that was absent.

What would the results have been if a vote was put before the general population of a reasonable law?

Let's say, the proposed law said that no abortions could be performed in Indiana after (Somewhere between 16-22 weeks, pick a number) except in cases of rape, incest, or to protect the life of the mother.

Do you believe that would pass on a straight up or down vote by the citizens of Indiana? I believe that it would.

I believe that the majority of citizens nationwide would vote yes on that proposed law, and that only the extremists would vote for a total ban with no exceptions.

Putting up votes by a majority of white male republican State Legislatures may achieve the results that you desire Old Dude, but I don't believe they are representative of the people as a whole. Countless polls have shown that the majority don't support a total ban, they only want reasonable restrictions.

So, if you truly want abortion laws that are in line with what the majority of the people want, try asking them...
