I read her stuff. I wrote to her. She wrote back.
Nice high level philosophic exchanges, I learned a lot.
The plot thickened. My Dad has degrees from Boston University, has taught theology there
Catholic Seminary ( Andover Newton) Got his Doctorate there , BTW.
It turns out Shadia HATES the liberal Catholic Jesuits from BU
and they in turn, represent a schism in Traditional Catholicism
( not sure where your uncle the Priest fell into this, doctrinally speaking, but I digress)
The irony was
The Catholic Church has been political for twenty centuries now and counting,
but the rise of "Modern Atheism" - based on false evolutionary premises
has philosophy created a internal schism and hypocrisy within the Catholic church.

Strauss was an atheist, a secular German Jew who came to America as the NAZIs came to power in Germany.
He taught at the University of Chicago, a hotbed of secular political theory.
His thesis is an expansion of the ideas of political power, and who is worthy to wield such power.
He taught something called "the noble lie" -- where it's important he felt to play up to the superstitions and beliefs of the masses ( theology, nationalism, cultural biases etc) but the ruler must must rise above the fray
and LIE if necessary to achieve larger "noble" political ends.
Strauss admired Nietzsches conceptions of the "will to power" and the "ubermench" embodied in the character
of a "fit" political leader..
contrary to Nietzsche and the "postmodernist existentialism" that followed for the masses on the Left
Strauss imagined a revamped Hlobal leadership following Plato's ideas of "Philosopher kings"
and a well ordered society in which everyone knew their place
and old soldiers ( like me) could salute the flag
and buy into the latest "Noble Lie"
while burying and "honoring" their dead.
