Which party was in power when the pandemic caused the sharpest American economic contraction since the Great Depression?
Which party was in power when the pandemic set the record unemployment rate since the Great Depression?
Trump is/was a 'conservative' and a RINO because that's where the opportunity to be elected was. How did that work for America? Not very well. Trump failed the test as POTUS in 2020, ignoring all the scientific advice at his hand because it was bad politics in an election year. Hillary had the Democratic Party locked up tight when Trump made his move.
The Republican Party was in chaos and had been since Obama's election in 2008. The best idea that the GoP leadership had was, in Mitch McConnel's words:

McConnell: We need to be honest with the public. This election is about them, not us. And we need to treat this election as the first step in retaking the government. We need to say to everyone on Election Day, “Those of you who helped make this a good day, you need to go out and help us finish the job.”
