One of my best friends, on a Harley, is leading the trucks from Oregon to Washington.  They are coming into Boise right now!  I wish him the best, long trip on a bike, but he's going to try!  So far only 430 miles.  Going to try to make Little American Truck stop tonight!

I wish I was retired so I could join them.

In my estimation, riding a bike is about 3x as tiring as in a car ..it's gonna be a long haul.

Keven does have arrangements to put the bike in a truck, but he really wants to make it, weather permitting.  

Not as bad as riding this ( schwinn chopper gas bike 5 hp 40 mph) something I built a while back. Fun but somewhat scary to ride, no suspension, not well balanced either-- but like our libz -- it's not always important to make good safe choices as it is to " look good" while being foolish

Picture of my hobby. Took 3 years to build.  Runs SCCA  in the A-Mod class.  Very quick, handles extremely well,  call pull 2 g's in a turn.  Yes lots of wing, rules allow 20 sq ft., lots of down force.

when I was a kid we went to the drag races in Epping NH.
Don Prodome, Snake and Mongoose funny cars did about 5 sec in the 1/4 ( 200 mph or so)

it's amazing these days they do it in 3 seconds (300 mph) hard to fathom.

It costs about $100,000 for a day at the races for a team. Just one day, maybe 5 races.
(A 3000 hp blown big block is trashed on every race!

Years ago I realized work lacked the feeling of accomplishment, did this, done that.

So I had to take up a hobbies, I run a Z-06 and the A-mod, road racing.

My guess is the bike is your feeling of accomplishment,

how great life can be when we get to live it!

Actually, I've always loved flying.

I suppose I've always liked investing too, and I used to be into making money 

but as King Solomon observed in Ecclesiastes ..."as possessions increase, so do those who use them, and what good are they --except to gaze upon them?"

So, like Solomon " I turned my heart to wisdom," but I also discovered,... "as knowledge increases, so in equal proportion does sorrow."

It's tough when you may become "the one-eyed man in the land of the blind" .. (and with the likes of our Libz and CreepyJoe, it not that hard to be that guy) 

The older you get the more you see human foolishness and lies and evil everywhere, and the more "sorrowful" one may become. 

I watched a video of an MI 24 being shot down in Ukraine. Broke my heart. Russians and Ukrainians killing each other-- especially the young Russians dying for a cause they were ordered to support. The Ukrainians are understandably pissed, and they're fighting for their independence-- but the civilian casualties , old men, women and children. Just another sound byte on the newz -- for a week or so-- then what?

As the flaming fuselage on the stingered MI-24 buckled and broke the tailboom, and the nose turned left from the main rotor torque, and the aircraft spun to a fireball 300 feet below, I thought of the two young men aboard will never see their families again, or their wives or children, or grandchildren. Add this to the mindless carnage I've internalized myself over the last half century-- (I almost feel guilty being a survivor)-- I have come close many times, but I'm still here.

I am thankful, but I'm sad too. 

I enjoy my work these days as a PFC ("proud fking civilian") as they said back in Crowbots day (Vietnam) I joined the  Army as that war was ending ( as a teenager) but those guys became my mentors as a young idealistic Shark.

Now as an old man, the world appears to be full of Giant Squids.
