As did a clear majority of Americans.
Look at the history of presidential elections- only 5 presidents were elected despite losing the popular vote:
Trump
George W Bush (who recieved a slight majority in 2004)
and then you have to back to the 19th century:

Rutherford B Hayes
John Quincy Adams
Trump joined a very select group of powerful American politicians, presidents who failed to be reelected. Of 46 presidents, only 9 were not reelected:
Trump got Joe Biden elected.
George H W Bush- who got Bill Clinton elected. There's a pattern there, I think.
Jimmy Carter (comparing Trump to 'Jimmuh' must really sting)
Geral Ford (never elected to the presidency and failed as an incumbent)

Wiliam H Taft
Benjamin Harrison (see above)
