Glenn Thompson attends son's gay wedding after voting against Respect for Marriage Act
WASHINGTON—Days following his vote against a House bill to protect same-sex marriage, Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Pa., attended his gay son's wedding.
"Congressman and Mrs. Thompson were thrilled to attend and celebrate their son’s marriage on Friday night as he began this new chapter in his life,” said Maddison Stone, Thompson’s press secretary, in an email to USA TODAY.
She added that the Thompson's are “very happy” to welcome their new son-in-law “into their family."

Thompson was one of the 157 Republicans who opposed the Respect for Marriage Act bill on Tuesday. However, 47 of his fellow Republicans joined all House Democrats in support of it.
In a statement to a local Pennsylvania paper, Centre Daily Times, Stone said the bill is “nothing more than an election-year messaging stunt for Democrats in Congress who have failed to address historic inflation and out of control prices at gas pumps and grocery stores.”
The bill, which received bipartisan support from 267 House members, now heads to the Senate for consideration, where it needs 60 votes to pass. |

There are states that do not allow same sex marriage. Is this just a move to take away states rights?
This should end up in the Suprime Court, And we know what they think about states rights.
The real question for Glenn Thompson, really the real question for all of us is;
The Marriage Act violates the constitution of some states, does the federal government have that power?
How much control over our lives do we want a central government to have?
Isn't the best government the one closest to you?
The constitution gives limited power the the federal government, for a reason. There is NO reason to give them more power to tell you who to marry, to have kids, drive this car, live in this house, work at that job, what to eat, what doctor to see, what shot to take, when you can have a vacation, what school to go to, basically take care of you. Because you are not responsible for yourself. You are just useful idiots.

If and when a state's laws violate the Consitution, then it is the federal government's duty to protect the citizens of this country. Think separate but equal.
If marriage is a right of a person, then it does not matter to whom or how many are married. When was the last time someone was prosecuted for polygamy?
And why do you care? Are you a 'sovereign citizen'? |

It should make ZERO difference who the people getting married are. The Redneck states have no right to say "Heterosexual people can get married but Gay people can't" that's blatant discrimination.
People move all over the country, you can't have all kinds of different marriage laws from state to state.
What you want is the right to discriminate against people who happen to be different from you, and that's just wrong.
Yes, if a state demands the right to discriminate against American citizens then they should have that right taken away. It's no different from Racism, it can't be state supported... |

In your often expressed opinion 'libs' are profoundly dishonest.
You can vote for the candidate you prefer or against the candidate you don't want to see in office.
How do you know who anybody voted for?
"W" in 2004
McCain in 2008
Romney 2012
I did not vote for Hillary in 2016.
Today’s progressives have embraced illiberalism, from speech codes to identity politics.

Because I am not an extreme right wing reactionary and nationalist, I am necessarily a 'lib'? Not to mention an inept POTUS. |

I love that post. Hypocrisy oozes out of it.
No one type casts people like a lib does.
Jettsheep especially, although he is like tits on a bull. Worthless and ignorant
All you libs here do the same thing. You assume everything, and know nothing.
Let's see how you run with this one :) |
