Had Trump invoked martial law, we would be deeply into a civil war now. Which is exactly what Trump hoped would be the result of the January 6 Riot, ending the American constitutional republic. The difference in America before and after that conflict would be even more marked than Antebellum America and America after the Civil War.

Trump's presidency-for-life and presidents in office following his eventual death would result in an America more like Gabon, Yemen.

Messy as American democracy is and it is messy, consider it in the light of Churchill's quote: "Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…" Trump would have emplaced an autocracy of the rich, powerful and personally connected. Banana republics ain't in it, those in power there are limited in effect by lack of resources to exploit and abuse their people.

Nope, as poor a president as I think Biden is, he's much preferable to Trump and as little agreement as I have with the Democratic Party agenda, Trumplicans could be much worse. I say 'could be' because Trumpism itself lacks coherence and policy beyond its' Dear Leader' and his personal profit.
