"The threats of  violence reflect an authoritarian impulse completely at odds with the alleged principles of the Republican Party and the conservative movement. After all, this is a political party that has long claimed to stand for patriotism, individual responsibility, family values and the rule of law. They are risking abandoning it all to protect a cult of personality for a political con man whose actions are the opposite of all those virtues."

There's nothing new in that, it's typical for people in general. Proof? Consider the most upright and trustworthy person you know- you consider that person is "upright and trustworthy" because they do exactly that, adhere to moral principles when other considerations, actions, might be more advantageous; versus the typical individual more or less convenient morality.

An article that discusses some of the reasons TrumpeRINOs support Trumpism, Trump-

Trump the fascist artist: How the MAGA crowd is motivated by aesthetics, not ideas

A Marxist philosopher named Walter Benjamin foresaw the rise of Trumpism more than eighty years ago

The final paragraph is especially interesting:

"The reality is that the problems facing ordinary Americans economically, socially, ecologically and internationally are largely due to the forces identified by the left: income inequality, lack of access to basic needs like healthcare, student debt, predatory lending and so on are all side effects of capitalism. Yet as long as fascists know how to win over supporters by appealing to an aesthetic — whether military parades and catchy tweets or trolling public statements and conspiracy theories that exist mainly to create a shared false narrative that can upset and delegitimize the left — their followers will misidentify the source of their misery, as Benjamin foresaw."

Is Trump a fascist because he has adapted some of the principles that made fascism functionally efficient? Not anymore than he is an example of outstanding business moral principles. He uses whatever tool he considers most suitable for the issue he wants to address, using it to his advantage. Fear and anger are the easiest emotions to arouse in people in general, even easier than greed so using them in your 'pitch' is efficient.
